Is Double Cleansing Necessary?
Any true K-beauty fan must be familiar with the double cleanse. Any good skin care routine starts with a mild cleanser, but what about the method known as "double cleansing"? Is it necessary or is it a waste of time and money?
While the double cleansing method might be beneficial in some cases, it is not essential for everyone. It largely depends on your skin type and the makeup you wear.
What is Double Cleansing?
Double cleansing involves using two different types of cleansers, one oil based and the regular cleanser. Even if you don't use makeup on a daily basis, it's still necessary to cleanse your face at the end of the day. It is essential to remove not just makeup, but also the dirt and pollution that builds on our skin during the day.
The best cleansers for double cleansing are oil-based liquid cleanser, cleansing balm or cleansing cloth, followed by a normal, water-soluble cream, gel, or lotion cleanser tailored to your skin type. If you have acne-prone skin and your skin become oily by noon, you should double cleanse. If you have dry skin and you don't feel oily during the day, double cleaning is not required, unless you're wearing a lot of makeup.
Cleansing oils and cleansing balms have a major benefit over pure oils since they contain an emulsifier. This allows the oil to combine with water and produce a milky emulsion, which is easier to rinse off the skin than pure oils, which leave the skin greasy.
